Faqs
-
Yes — pregnant members are welcome at Studio 224, however class eligibility and medical clearance requirements vary depending on your stage of pregnancy.
-
Up to 15 weeks pregnant: you may attend standard group classes without medical clearance, provided you have disclosed your pregnancy to us.
Between 15 and 27 weeks pregnant: you will need written clearance from your GP, obstetrician or midwife confirming that reformer and mat Pilates is appropriate for you at this stage of pregnancy before attending standard group classes.
From 28 weeks pregnant: standard group classes are no longer suitable. Members may attend Nest (our pre and post-natal class) with clearance from their treating practitioner.
Please note that advanced and high-intensity exercise modifications are not suitable during pregnancy. Our instructors will provide pregnancy-safe modifications once your pregnancy has been disclosed to the studio.
-
Pilates can help maintain strength, stability and mobility, support posture and pelvic floor muscles, and assist with managing common pregnancy discomforts such as back tension. Regular movement during pregnancy is associated with physical and emotional benefits and supports overall well-being.
-
General physical activity guidelines suggest aiming for around 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, spread across most days. Pilates can contribute meaningfully to this, alongside other low-impact movement, strength, and mobility work.
-
Suitable classes during pregnancy will depend on your stage of pregnancy, how you’re feeling, and guidance from your healthcare provider.
In the earlier stages of pregnancy, Signature classes may feel suitable if your pregnancy is uncomplicated and you feel comfortable exercising. As your body changes, many members transition into Motion classes, which offer a slower and more considered pace.
From the later stages of pregnancy, Nest — our pre and post-natal class — will generally become the most appropriate option. Nest is specifically designed to support movement during pregnancy and post-partum recovery in a safe and supportive environment.
Our instructors will always provide pregnancy-safe modifications once your pregnancy has been disclosed to the studio. We also recommend consulting your GP, obstetrician or midwife to help guide decisions around exercise during pregnancy.
-
Yes — please let your instructor know prior to class. This helps us ensure your experience is tailored appropriately, with thoughtful options and support available as your body changes.
